between a princess and a snake who fell in love with her in the Cheongpyeongsa
Buddhist temple.
During the Tang dynasty, ancient China, a young man
fell in love with the king's daughter, but did not bear fruit, because of the
difference of his social standing. Finally, the guy died of his love affair and
his spirit became a snake.
One day, the snake appeared in front of the princess,
then wrapped around her body. The king was shocked and called a doctor and a
shaman to release his daughter, but the serpent did not move at all and the
princess grew more and more thin. The princess is advised to pray around the
temples in Shilla's kingdom and she gets to the Cheongpyeongsa temple.
By sunset, the princess dwells in a cave sounded the
bells of the temple. The princess said to the serpent, "Should not get out
of my body for a while? There seems to be a temple nearby, I want to ask for
food there but it's hard to walk because my body is heavy." After the
princess said, the snake let go. The princess bathed in the valley, then both
inside the temple.

would run away for a long time not returning. He entered the temple door to
find the princess. At that time, suddenly there was a lightning and the snake
died of lightning. The princess who returned looks the snake dead and feel
sorry. He buried the snake well and built a tower over Guseong waterfall before
the princess went home.
Since then, the cave inhabited by the princess named
Gongjugul is meaningful, the princess cave, the door that the snake incarnated
is called Hwejeonmun, and the tower above the waterfall is named Gongjutap or
the princess tower.
